Mode of action:

  • Photosynthesis: Magnesium is the core metal ion in the center of the chlorophyll molecule. It is directly responsible for light absorption and allows the plant to harness solar energy to produce food.
  • Enzyme Activation: It acts as an essential cofactor for more than 300 enzymes in plants. This includes activating Rubisco, the vital enzyme responsible for carbon dioxide fixation during photosynthesis.
  • Energy Transfer & Transport: Magnesium is required for the synthesis, transport, and utilization of ATP (the plant's energy currency). It facilitates the movement of sugars and starches (photoassimilates) from source leaves to the roots, developing seeds, and fruits.
